The Birth of ISF

ISF's story began in 2006 when a group of friends living in Hong Kong embarked on a life-changing trip to Cambodia. What they witnessed shook them to their core: children scavenging for cans and bottles on the streets, or toiling away instead of attending school. This stark reality compelled them to take action, and thus, ISF was born.

Empowering Through Education, Football, and Community Support

Today, ISF stands as a beacon of hope for these vulnerable children, offering three vital programs: education, football, and community support.

Our Education Program reaches 700 kids from impoverished backgrounds who either dropped out of or have never been to school. We assess their academic levels, place them in appropriate classes, and help them catch up to their age group . We teach two grades in one year until they catch up to the correct grade for their age and are integrated into state school. Our ultimate goal is to equip them with the education they need to secure stable employment. Currently, 57 of our students are pursuing university degrees, balancing their studies with part-time work.

We also address the barriers causing children to drop out by providing uniforms, stationary, school meals, and healthcare, while families receive monthly food parcels and employment support to reduce financial burdens. Our community support program complements education by working with the children's parents and families. Through initiatives like a tailoring project, we teach parents valuable skills, enabling them to earn a sustainable income. The stronger the family's financial stability, the longer their children stay in school. These projects are intricately connected, reinforcing the path to a better future.

Our Football program, on the other hand, transcends physical activity. It serves as an educational platform, delivering lessons on vital life skills like gender equality and effective communication. This inclusive program welcomes 4000 children from diverse backgrounds every year, including those with disabilities and affected by HIV, providing them with opportunities to be part of society.

The Inspiration Behind the Football Program

ISF’s Football Program is particularly close to my heart. It's more than just a game; it's a vehicle for education. During football training, children learn crucial life skills that will serve them well in their everyday lives and future academic pursuits.

My Humble Beginnings

My journey started quite differently. I began my career as a cleaner. At that time, I hadn't completed high school and lacked English proficiency. To bridge these gaps, I worked as a cleaner for an American family to learn English. Subsequently, I found a job in another province and began volunteering. My dedication paid off, and I was eventually promoted. After three years, I realized that returning to school was necessary to advance in my career. I moved to Phnom Penh and continued my professional journey.

The Greatest Source of Pride

My greatest pride undoubtedly lies in working for ISF. Every day, we witness children growing, evolving, and transforming their lives. When they first arrive, they bear the marks of hardship – unkempt nails, disheveled hair, and weary faces. Over time, you see the remarkable difference: improved confidence, better health and well-being, and some even secure jobs. Witnessing these transformations is the most rewarding aspect of my work.

Words of Wisdom for Young Women

If I could offer advice to young women, it would be this: Follow your heart, pursue your passions, and live your life for yourself, not to conform to others' expectations. Be true to your dreams and aspirations.

Navigating Challenges as a Woman

Being a woman in the professional world does present challenges. Sometimes, we encounter biases and differing treatment compared to our male counterparts. However, I take immense pride in being a woman in my current role because it allows me to inspire other young women.

Hopes and Dreams for the Future

Looking ahead, my deepest wish is that we can extend our support to even more children facing difficult circumstances. We aim to transform their lives, bridging the gap from where they are now to where they can be, full of promise and potential.

In conclusion, ISF's journey is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to empowering disadvantaged children. As a woman, a leader, and a believer in the power of education and community, I am committed to ensuring that more and more children can break free from the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures. Together, we can make a difference, one child at a time.
